It must have been quite a wild weekend on South Beach. With the Mercedes-Benz Miami Fashion Swim Week and filming for Rock Of Ages continuing to rock on, Miami was the place to be this past weekend.
Miami was transported back to the ’80s on Monday when a group of extras were treated to a performance by Tom Cruise during a scene for the movie-musical “Rock of Ages.”
Cruise, who plays bad boy Stacee Jaxx in the big-screen adaptation of the Broadway show, stepped out on stage in sunglasses, a black leather vest and sported tattoos on his biceps. He rocked out to Bon Jovi’s “Wanted Dead or Alive” and Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing” for a concert scene, according to local reports.
Extras were asked to look the part, with ’80s-inspired hair, makeup and all-black outfits. Those who showed up at the city’s Sun Life Stadium were put on buses and transported to the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, where the filming took place.
Cruise rocked the crowd along with co-stars Julianne Hough and Diego Boneta.
The goal was to assemble a crowd of 5,000 people ready to take a trip back in the musical time warp with the sounds of 1980s rock hits.
Director Adam Shankman asked everyone to come dressed in their 1980s best, complete with big hair, make-up and all black rockin’ clothes. But Shankman isn’t from Miami so he forgot the warning about be prepared to spend the afternoon sweating.
“Rock of Ages” also stars Alec Baldwin, Russell Brand, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Paul Giamatti. The film is set to arrive in theaters on June 1, 2012.
