Paramount Pictures is kicking off its 100th year of production with the announcement that the hugely popular supernatural horror franchise Paranormal Activity will be adding a fourth movie to their current repertoire.
We’re hardly surprised to hear this news given the speed in which the second and third movies were pumped out after the success of the original.
The first Paranormal Activity movie started with only a limited released in 2007, but despite its minimal budget (a miniscule $15,000) the movie grossed an unbelievable $193.4 million upon its eventual world wide release in 2009. The later Paranormal Activity films have followed a similar suit, boasting reasonably low budgets and surprisingly high audience numbers. The most recent movie in the franchise made more than 40 times its original budget of $5 million grossing $202.2 mill.
The movies are the brain child of writer/director Oren Peli and tell the story of Katie, a girl who has been haunted by terrifying and disturbing supernatural occurrences throughout her childhood and even into her adult life.
Although no release date has yet been set for Paranormal Activity 3 work on the feature is already under way. No cast or crew have been officially named yet either, however we fully expect Jason Blum, Oren Peli and Steven Schneider will make reappearance as producers.
