- Ricky Gervais didn’t live up to the hype. Back for his 3rd year in a row, he lacked the shock value or laughs of last year’s performance. His jokes went nowhere and he looked like he didn’t want to be there. Cut away shots to celebs who were stonefaced or laughing uncomfortably, didn’t help his cause. Gervais kept saying why the Oscars are more important than the Globes. So I will just say, yes it’s true Ricky. That’s why the Oscars have Billy Crystal.
- Meryl Streep is nothing without a script. Also, she isn’t much without her reading glasses. When the “greatest actress of all time” got up to receive her Best Actress award, she stammered her way through a speech that was hard to understand.
- George Clooney owned the room. Besides being nominated for everything it seemed except Best Original Song, he really played his Ambassador to Hollywood role perfectly. His mocking of good pal Brad Pitt’s walking cane might have been the funniest part of the night.

- Staying with George. Was it just me, or did Brad and Leo have a certain look on their faces while clapping for Clooney’s Best Actor victory? The “we are going to have to just sit and clap for George when he wins the SAGs and Oscars” look.
- While I agreed with most of the winners, I can’t believe neither Michel Hazanavicius nor Alexander Payne won Best Director. I love Martin Scorsese, he is a legend. But Hugo is far from his best work and I’m not sure he was worthy of a nomination, let alone a win.
- Not to get all fashionista on you, but… the best looking women at the Globes were Zooey Deschanel, Julianne Moore, Jessica Alba, Angelina Jolie, Charlize Theron and yes…even Madonna!
- I want to adopt that Jack Russell Terrier from The Artist.
- Christopher Plummer is a lock to win the SAG and Oscar. Octavia Spencer and George Clooney are getting closer to lock status. I think Best Actress is still up for grabs. Best Picture should go to The Artist or The Descendants.
