Steven Spielberg and DreamWorks are in talks to acquire the film rights to the 1939 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, The Grapes Of Wrath, by John Steinbeck.
As of now, Spielberg is only interested in the project as a producer, although he might still end up directing the film.
The original film was made in 1940 by director John Ford, who happens to be one of Spielberg’s idols. The Depression-era tale is about the Joads. A family of poor farmers who travel from the drought-stricken Dust Bowl of Oklahoma to the promise of a better life in California.
